A teenage girl has died in hospital after sustaining critical injuries in a horrific car crash on the NSW and Victoria border.
Emergency services rushed to the Riverina Highway on the outskirts of Alburn at about 6pm on Saturday following reports a sedan and a ute had collided.
Rescuers freed four people who were stuck in the sedan, including a 16-year-old girl, who was rushed to Albury Base Hospital in a critical condition.
She later died as a result of her injuries.
A 20-year-old female passenger was also taken out of the sedan and airlifted to The Alfred Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the sedan, a 44-year-old man, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before he was taken to Albury Base Hospital in a stable condition.
A 19-year-old woman was also taken to Albury Base Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the ute, a 45-year-old man, was taken to Albury Base Hospital with minor injuries.
Police established a crime scene which was later examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.
The ute driver was later arrested at Albury Police Station and charged with eight offences, including three counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, cause bodily harm by misconduct, three counts of negligent driving and not keeping left of a dividing line.
The man’s licence was also suspended.
He was granted bail and is due to face Albury Local Court in June.
