Cristiano Ronaldo could become the WWE’s latest crossover star.

According to a report from AS, the leading professional wrestling promotion wants Ronaldo to make a guest appearance at its upcoming Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia on November 4.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will receive a large appearance fee if he agrees to appear alongside John Cena who recently featured in an advert to promote the event.

Ronaldo wouldn’t be the first footballer to take part in a WWE show, he’d be following in the footsteps of his former Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney who made a cameo at WWE Raw in 2015.

Former Norwich striker Grant Holt, ex-Wycombe Wanderers forward Adebayo Akinfenwa and German goalkeeper Tim Wiese have also all featured for the WWE.

Several boxers have made cameos for promotion formerly owned by Vince McMahon.

Tyson Fury, Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather, Muhammad Ali, and Mike Tyson are some of the sports stars who have paved the way for Ronaldo to make his company debut.

The 38-year-old, who recently joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, has been backed to successfully transition to professional wrestling by NXT star Apollo Crews.

He said: "Honestly, with that mentality to be a top athlete in the world on that level, I think just on the mentality alone he would've done okay.

"When you start the physical part, that's a different story, though, for most people. But again, [he's] a world-class athlete so I wouldn't put it past him."

Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey and YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul are two examples of people who turned their cameo into a long-term gig with the WWE.

Right now, those in charge are looking to take things to the next level.

Just last week, the company officially merged with the UFC in a £17.4 billion deal and Ari Emmanuel became the new owner of wrestling’s biggest organization.

Trying to secure an appearance from Ronaldo shows the new WWE owner has great ambition and suggests WWE fans have a lot to look forward to under the new regime.
