The former racing driver was born on August 15, 1979, in Columbia, Missouri as Carl Michael Edwards II. From there he moved to the University of Missouri to study engineering.
It didn’t take him too long in college before he realized that it wasn’t helping him, because what he wanted was to be a racing driver. In fact, he was fond of sports since childhood, which made him think that everyone knew a lot or at least about running.
His journey to becoming a racing driver began when he was just 4 years old when his father, Carl Edwards Sr., built him a Go Kart. It kept him on his wheels well into adulthood. Even when he was in high school, he continued to drive and work on his car, and on the weekends he raced with his father.
When he was 15, he decided to try racing at Godfrey III using a fake ID, as the event was only open to 16-year-old players before he could enter the pits. and be 18 years old.
Carl Edwards was able to get up to $34,000 from his mother, Nancy Sterling, to fund the United States Auto Club’s Silver Crown circuit in which he took part. In 2002, he was already competing in NASCAR when he entered the Craftsman Truck Series for the then struggling MB Motorsports.
He would continue with a great performance which was crowned in 2005 when he finished third in the Cup standings, winning four races. That year, he was awarded the NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year. This took place after the race driver was named the 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year.
The coming years would be good for him as he became NASCAR Busch Series Champion in 2007 and won the Dream Prelude in the same year. He also won the NASCAR Sprint All-Star (2011), 2015 Coca-Cola 600 (2015), and Bojangles’ Southern 500 (2015) races.
After enjoying a fine career in the fast lane, Edwards ended the game when he retired in 2017 after claiming 28 Cup victories.
