Anastasia Gubanova Facts

  • Anastasia started learning to skate in 2006 (as a 4-year-old) and began representing her birth country of Russia at the international level in November 2013.
  • At the national level, in the junior tier, she won the ‘Silver’ medal in the 2015 edition of the Russian Figure Skating Cup and the ‘Gold’ medal in the 2017 edition of the competition.
  • In October 2016, during her ‘Gold’ medal-winning performance at the 2016 ISU JGP (Junior Grand Prix) in Germany, Anastasia recorded a score of 129.14 points in the ‘free skating’ section of the competition. This broke Japanese figure skater Marin Honda‘s ‘free skating’ junior world record that was set in September 2016.
  • In December 2016, during her ‘Silver’ medal-winning performance at the 2016-17 edition of the ISU JGP Final, Anastasia recorded a score of 133.77 points in the ‘free skating’ section of the competition. This improved her record from October 2016 and made her the first junior female figure skater to have breached the mark of 130 points in the ‘free skating’ program.
  • Later that day, at the same event, this record was broken by Russian figure skater Alina Zagitova (136.51 points). Alina improved the record to 138.02 points in March 2017 and it was shattered completely in March 2018 when Alexandra Trusova, another Russian, recorded 153.49 points.
  • This mark of 153.49 points became a historical world record because the International Skating Union (the international governing body for figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, and short-track speed skating) decided that all statistics would start from zero from the 2018-19 season after the introduction of the new +5/-5 GOE (Grade of Execution) system which replaced the previous +3/-3 GOE system.
  • At the national level, in the senior tier, Anastasia won the ‘Silver’ medal in the 2018 and 2020 editions of the Russian Figure Skating Cup.
  • In August 2021, it was announced that she would be representing Georgia henceforth at the international level. The decision was largely influenced by the fact that there were too many highly-ranked figure skaters in Russia and this was impacting Anastasia’s opportunities of qualifying for a lot of international competitions.
  • Anastasia’s hobbies/interests include dancing and listening to music.
